Great Hinton Village

Burns Night - 25th January 2020

22 villagers enjoyed Burns Night supper in the village hall. We dined on Cullen Skink, Haggis and Clapshot with a wee tot of whisky, and finished with Cranachan.

Shona gave the Address to the Haggis without managing to stab herself with the knife, followed by Nick's 'toast to the lassies' and Catherine's reply with a poem about Jean Armour (Robbie Burn's wife).

Music and Mirth - Wednesday 15th January

On the 15th January we welcomed a group called 'Music and Mirth', who are a part of Devizes Musical Theatre, to Great Hinton Ladies Club.

Partners were invited and we were entertained for about 45 minutes by these wonderful singers.

John Craig insisted that we join in on some of the choruses. Hopefully he was not too put out by our lack of singing ability!

We then enjoyed a selection of 'lite bites' provided by our members. A thoroughly good evening was had by all.

Pub Olympics

27 friends and neighbours enjoyed another session of Pub Olympics on 11th January.

We played darts, skittles, shove ha'penny, dominoes and table skittles. All without too many infringements of the rules! The best at shove ha'penny was Graham; best domino player was Peter; table skittles was won by Joe; Graham and Steve held top place at skittles and Beryl totally surprised herself with the highest score in darts on her 1st round (she didn’t do as well the next time!).

The winning team was 'The Red Devils' purely on the throw of a dart as they scored equal points with 'The Black Peppers'. The losing team had decided that the nearest to the bulls eye would be the winners.

(the photos are not of the winners, simply ones taken during the evening)

Hopefully you will all be back again next time to defend your titles!
